William L. Shoemaker, 84, of Campbell, NY passed away Thursday, March 16, 2023 at home with his family at his side.
William, who was known as Bill, retired from Polly-O Dairy in Campbell where he worked as a Loading Foreman. Bill loved cars and upon his retirement he started his used car business named B&B Auto. He enjoyed Fridays at the auction bidding on cars and talking with friends. He looked forward to his annual trip to the Gulf Coast to see the thousands of antique cars in Cruisin the Coast and rode along in his son’s restored cars which he loved.
Bill talked of memories of his many cars that he owned throughout the years and the rides that he and his wife Janet would take. She fondly remembers him going to Addison in one of his hot rods to pick her up when they were dating much to the chagrin of her parents. When they had children, they would load them in the car on Sundays for the Sunday car ride. Bill and Janet continued taking car rides to see the lakes, Christmas lights, and different sites in the area through their entire lives together.
Bill spoiled his fur babies, enjoyed watching birds, and loved to tinker with things. He was never sitting and always working on something.
Bill is survived by his wife of 64 years, Janet; son Bruce (Tina) Shoemaker of Vancleave, MS; daughter Debbie (Paul) Spradlin of Culpeper, VA; Alan (Holly) Shoemaker of Campbell, NY; and Penny Shoemaker of Culpeper, VA.
He took special pride in his grandchildren Tony Spradlin of Corning, NY; Paige (Wayne) Thompkins, of Ocean Springs, MS; Joshua (Jennifer) Spradlin of Culpeper, VA; Justin (Shelby) Shoemaker of Vancleave, MS; Brianna (Scott) Matthews of Culpeper; VA, Ryan Shoemaker of Biloxi, MS; and John Topf of Culpeper, VA; and his 9 great-grandchildren.
There will be a family memorial service at 10:00 a.m. on Monday April 10, 2023, at the Campbell Hope Cemetery officiated by Bill’s brother-in-law Reverend Edward Rice. A reception will follow the service at the Campbell Fire Hall.
