Severna Park, MD - William Leo Havens, age 77, formerly of Bath, NY, passed away on November 5, 2023, at the University of Maryland Washington Medical Center after a courageous battle with Leukemia.
Bill was born in Corning, NY, to Mary Louise Burger and Leo Havens on June 15, 1946.
He attended Northside High School and was a member of the first class to graduate from Corning East High School in 1964. After high school, he attended Alfred State College and then graduated with honors from Corning Community College.
Bill worked for AT&T and Corning Inc. He spent many years traveling the world working on various projects for Corning.
He was the family’s “go to guy” whenever repairs or new projects needed to be completed. His thumbprint is in all our homes.
He was an avid Notre Dame, Boston Red Sox, and Buffalo Bills fan. He also loved watching western movies.
Bill’s greatest joy was his family. He treasured their summers together at their little paradise on Keuka Lake which was created by the work of his hands and that of his sons. He was also very proud of his sons’ and grandchildren’s academic, athletic, and musical successes. He couldn’t help giving heartfelt adulations and slipping the grandchildren a few bucks for every little accomplishment.
Bill is survived by his children: John (Suzanne) Havens of North Marshfield, MA, and their children, David and Andrew, Thomas (Stacy) Havens of Davie, FL, and their children, Aiden and Aubrey, Kevin (Amie Jo) Havens of Severna Park, MD, and their children, Leo, Dash and Preslie; sister, Sheila (James) Davis of Painted Post, NY, and brother, Timothy (Mary Lynn Zuder) Havens, of Corning, NY.
The services for Bill will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Corning, NY, at the family’s convenience. The Rev. Patrick Connor will officiate.
Donations in Bill’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
William’s family has entrusted his care to Acly-Stover Funeral Home.
