Susan Louise Wedding, of East Third Street, Corning, NY, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 15th, 2026, in Sayre, PA, after a brief illness. She was a pillar in her family and in her church, and deeply loved both. She was 82.
Susan Louise Viger was born in Parkersburg, WV, on November 15th, 1943, to father Burnett Viger and mother Lee Viger. She was raised there and later in Corning, NY, with her beloved sister, Jane.
After graduating from Corning Free Academy in 1961, Susan completed study at the Erie County Technical Institute at Buffalo. She then went on to study public health at SUNY Cortland, and completed both a bachelor’s and master’s degree. Her occupation for the latter half of the 1960s was as a dental hygienist, and later as a third-grade teacher in the Horseheads Central School System.
In 1968, she met Brent Wedding at a Halloween party, kitty-corner to the yellow house they would later call home, together, for over fifty years. She married Brent in 1969, and moved into their only house together in 1971. Susan then made the transition to the noblest of professions: raising their son John, born in 1972, and daughter Caryl, born in 1976.
Susan’s life embodied loving strength, stalwart consistency, and enthusiastic presence in her roles as daughter, sister, mother, and grandmother. She loved the Lord and was a pillar in First Baptist Church of Corning for decades. Susan treated her friends and neighbors like family, and cared deeply for them. Her creative side produced intricate works of cross-stitch, delicious dishes and desserts, and beautiful flower arrangements both in May baskets and around her home.
Susan was predeceased by her parents, Burnett and Lee Viger; her loving husband of 52 years, Brent; and her beloved sister, Jane Loomis. She is survived by her son John with wife Vanessa; her daughter Caryl with husband Ronald Hirst; her three grandchildren Jillian, Susan, and Jacob; her sister-in-law Kay Major of Washington state; and her eight nieces.
The funeral service will be held at the First Baptist Church in Corning, NY, at 110 East First Street on Friday, March 20th, 2026, at 11 AM.
Flowers will be provided by the family. Memorial donations may be made in Susan’s name to First Baptist Church, or to the donor’s charity of choice.
