Stewart “Stew” Lowery
January 16, 1952 – April 10, 2026
Stewart “Stew” Lowery, 74, of Hornby, NY, passed away peacefully at home on April 10, 2026, with a New York Yankees game playing in the background and his son, Casey, by his side.
Born January 16, 1952, he was the son of Herbert and Florence Lowery.
Stew graduated from West High School in 1971 and held fast to the belief, “Once a Viking, always a Viking.” Two of his favorite things were talking and listening to music, and he found great joy in both while working as a radio announcer at WCBA and later KZ106. He often joked, “I have a face for radio.”
He also worked for 40 years as a forklift operator at Ingersoll Rand and Dresser Rand. A proud union member, Stew was actively involved for many years in the Employee Assistance Program.
Stew was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed life’s simple pleasures. He loved being outdoors, whether mowing the lawn on his prized John Deere, clearing trees in the “Temple,” where friends and family often gathered, or sitting on the front porch with a cold Labatt’s in his hand.
After retiring, he began crafting walking sticks, most of which he gave away to friends and family. He loved to draw and had a flair for costumes, often convincing others to join him in wearing them and participating in unique musical numbers.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon (Bronson) Lowery; his son, Casey Lowery; his daughter, Molly Lowery; and his grandsons, Nicholas and Gabriel, of whom he was incredibly proud.
He was predeceased by his parents, Herbert and Florence Lowery; his brother, Richard Lowery; his sisters, Patricia Nobriga and Deborah Jenks; and his nieces Elizabeth “Kookie” Fuller, Darcy Cable, Teah Nobriga, and nephew Dominic Nobriga.
Stew will be remembered for his easygoing nature, his love of life, his gift of gab, and, always, his sense of humor. As one friend shared, “The earth got a lot dimmer, and the heavens have brightened after his passing.”
The family would like to thank the “Hornby Boys,” who showed up without being asked, as well as their wonderful neighbors and the many dear friends who went above and beyond to support them during this time.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
