On Sunday, November 20, Robert "Bob" T. Gehl (80) passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side. He is reunited with his parents, Francis "Frank" and Mary Helen (Smith) Gehl, and his brother Francis "Fran" Gehl, in heaven.
Bob grew up in Corning, NY, where he graduated high school and received his Associate's Degree from Corning Community College in Business Technology. Bob also proudly served his country in the U.S. Army as a Military Policeman. Following his honorable discharge, Bob began his long-tenured career in accounting, which included creating and operating his own business, Gehl's Bookkeeping Service. He was a member of the Twin Tiers Christian Church of Painted Post.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Pamela (Hickey) Gehl, and his three children, Suzette (Jeanette) Tierney, Bob, and Steven (April). Bob cherished being a "papa" to his seven grandchildren, who he also leaves behind. Bob is also survived by his brothers, Jim (Jane), Tom (Sherry), and Dan (Marcia), and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and his three beloved furbabies.
Among his many interests, Bob was a devoted fan of the Buffalo Bills and N.Y. Mets, and he never missed a game. In addition to that, he was an avid bowler. He was also a very prominent figure in the community, constantly raising money for the greater good. Some of the causes near and dear to his heart were the National MS Society, breast cancer, autism, and Alzheimer's disease, to name a few.
Bob enjoyed his social media and appreciated all the "likes" and comments on his posts. We are certain "Chef Bob" is preparing a meal for his friends and family who have passed before him.
At the family's request, there will be no public services. Memorial contributions, if desired, can be made in Bob's name to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
