Richard (Dick) Drumm passed away on April 16, 2024. He was born March 19, 1935, to the late Elmer and Clara Drumm. Dick’s service in the US Army and Reserves prepared him for his future career as a heavy equipment operator with Loomis Construction and the Steuben County Highway Department. He served many years on the Campbell Town Board along with other service/community organizations to include the Campbell Lion’s Club, Jaycees, Campbell Fire Dept., and Robert N. Austin American Legion Post 1279.
Dick, along with his wife, Wilma partnered with his sister and brother-in-law, Helen and John Van Hassent to open Camp Bell Campground which they operated for 22 years. Although much hard work went into this endeavor, the resulting and lasting friendships made, more than offset the labor involved.
Dick was predeceased by his wife of 68 years Wilma, is sister and brother-in-law Helen and John Van Hassent, and brother Frederick Drumm. He is survived by daughter Sherry (Mark) Christian of Chesapeake VA, granddaughter Staci (Dustin) Martindale of Munford TN, grandchildren Andrew, Colton, and Makenzie Martindale, sisters-in-law Beverly Drumm and Kay Morse, along with many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Dick’s life, with military honors, will be held Wednesday June 12, 2024 beginning at 4:30pm at the Robert N. Austin American Legion Post 1279, in Campbell.
