Mary Ann Mathis

Mary Ann (Childs) Mathis went to be with the Lord the morning of March 19, 2018. She passed away at The Vincent House in Wayland, New York. Mary was born November 2, 1922.

In her 95 years on this earth Mary made many friends and leaves behind a large extended family legacy. She is survived by her brother Richard Childs of Scotch Plains, NJ; 3 sons Allen (Mary) Mathis of Corning, NY, Glen (Shirley) Mathis of Henderson, NV and Herbert Terrance (Cindy) Mathis of Corning, NY; 7 grandchildren, Terri Lynn (Tony) Shepherd of Painted Post, NY, Jakki (Jim) Mathis-Hull of Centreville, VA, Lennie (Rachel) Drummond of Elmira, NY, Miykael (Charisse) Mathis, Matthew Mathis and Manuel (Brianna) Mathis each of Henderson/Las Vegas, NV and Taylor Mathis of Painesville, OH/Corning, NY and 14 great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews and loved ones.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband of many decades Herbert "Bubba" Mathis whom she met in Elkland PA, and many family members including parents, siblings, cousins and in-laws.

Before retiring in 1991, Mary worked at Founders Pavilion a senior citizen's home in Corning where she prepared balanced meals for the elderly residents. She also sold Avon products for several years. Mary enjoyed spending time with family, doing jigsaw puzzles and reading her Bible. Mary was a faithful child of God and attended The Church of Christ in Horseheads, NY.

A celebration of Mary's life officiated by Mark Dailey will be held on March 24, 2018 at Acly-Stover Funeral Home, 327 East Second Street, Corning, NY 14830. Viewing hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., followed by a service from 10:30 to 11:30 and then a burial procession to Hope Cemetery on Park Avenue in Corning.
