Kathie Long

Kathie Long passed away on October 20, 2022.  She was born Kathie Elaine Knowles, on February 27, 1942, in Corning, to Ernest and Margaret (Holton) Knowles.  Kathie graduated from Painted Post High School in 1959, and attended Corning Community College.  For many years she worked as a medical secretary and receptionist in Corning medical offices. 

Kathie had a zest for life and always enjoyed being in the company of family and friends.  She was an excellent cook and baker, and often entertained in her home.  Kathie loved shopping, music, and dancing.  As a younger woman, Kathie was a member of Indian Hills Golf Club.  She was a member of the Corning Hospital Chapter for many years.

Kathie is survived by her mother, Peggy Knowles; daughter, Stephanie (James) Spry; grandchildren: Brandon Showalter,  Alexis (Lea) Wojciechowski-Spry,  Chelsi (Josh) Dieg; great-grandchildren: Parker, Murphy, and Elliot Dieg; brother, Lonnie (Shido) Knowles, sister, Valerie (Gary) Howe, former sister-in-law, Donna Ruocco; stepchildren and their families: Ken (Julie) Long and Kelly Wilson.  Her beloved nieces and nephews will cherish their memories of Aunt Kathie.  She is also survived by uncles, Harry (Donna) Knowles and Stanley (Esther) Knowles.

Kathie was predeceased by her father, Ernest Knowles, her son David Ruocco in 2019, her former husband, Joseph A. Ruocco, and her husband, Richard Long.

The family will gather for private services in the spring.  Donations in Kathie’s name may be sent to a charity of donor’s choice or the Alzheimer’s Association.
