Janet Shoemaker Obituary

Janet Shoemaker, 81, passed away on March 23, 2024 in Culpeper, VA.  She resided in Campbell, NY for 64 years.

Born November 14,1942 in Addison, NY, she was the daughter of the late Charles C. and Betty R. Rosenkrans-Cook.

Janet was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years William (Bill) Shoemaker in 2023, brother Charles L. Cook of Addison, NY and sister Susan E. Cook of Addison, NY.  She is survived by son Bruce (Tina) Shoemaker of Vancleave, MS; daughter Debbie (Paul) Spradlin of Culpeper, VA; Alan (Holly) Shoemaker of Campbell, NY; and Penny (Todd) Shoemaker of Big Flats, NY; brother Gary (June) Cook of Jonesville, NC; sister Sharron (Jim) Holvey of Harvest, AL; sister Beverly (Edward) Rice of Dundee, NY; and foster daughters Susan (John) O’Grady of Colonie, NY and Melody (Dave) LeClair of Garland, TX.

She took special pride in her grandchildren Tony Spradlin of Campbell, NY; Paige (Wayne) Thompkins, of Ocean Springs, MS; Joshua Spradlin of Culpeper, VA; Justin (Shelby) Shoemaker of Vancleave, MS; Brianna (Scott) Matthews of Culpeper, VA; Ryan Shoemaker of Biloxi, MS; John Topf of Culpeper, VA; and her 9 great- grandchildren.

Janet loved spending time with family and friends.  The entire family knew that Thanksgiving would be at Janet and Bill’s house every year, a tradition that will be missed by all.  She especially enjoyed her grandchildren and loved it when family would stop by the house for a visit.  Janet spoiled her fur babies, enjoyed watching birds, and ensured that Santa and his reindeer flew through Campbell every year.

She retired from Campbell-Savona Central School where she drove a school bus for many years.  She loved driving a school bus and talked fondly of the kids and how she made sure she had a special treat for each of them on their birthdays.  Janet was involved with the Fresh Air Fund for many years and hosted children in her home for over 15 years.

There will be a family memorial service at 11am on Monday, June 3, 2024 at the Campbell Hope Cemetery officiated by Janet’s brother-in-law, Reverend Edward Rice.  A reception will follow the service at the Campbell Fire Hall.
