Hugh A. Stafford Obituary

Hugh A. Stafford, 74, of Bath, New York, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Keuka Comfort Care Home in Penn Yan, New York.

Born on June 14, 1951, Hugh was the son of the late Hugh W. and Doris R. (Cole) Stafford. He grew up with a strong sense of responsibility and a willingness to work hard, along with a quiet way of caring for others. These qualities stayed with him throughout his life. A graduate of Campbell Savona High School, Hugh went on to build a long career as a truck driver and retired from Hakes Construction Company in Painted Post. He took pride in his work and found satisfaction in doing his job well.

Hugh was a man who found joy in simple, everyday moments. He was always ready to help a neighbor, especially during the winter months when he would be out early plowing driveways and making sure others were taken care of. He never looked for recognition, he simply did what needed to be done. In his spare time, he enjoyed working in his garage, spending hours tinkering, fixing, and figuring things out. It was a place where he was most at ease.

He also truly enjoyed the time he spent with friends at Paradise Park Campground, where he and Beverly kept a seasonal site. Hugh looked forward to the conversations, laughter, and the many activities they shared there. It was a special place where he could relax, connect with others, and enjoy the simple pleasures of life.

He shared his life with his wife, Beverly R. (Gilbert) Stafford, and together they built a home filled with care and quiet kindness. Hugh welcomed Beverly’s family as his own and treated them with the same love and respect, making sure everyone felt included and supported.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly R. Stafford of Bath, his daughter Melissa Stafford, and his grandchildren Rico Lopez, Perishia Stafford, Paulina Raylea, and Teresa Raylea. He also leaves behind Beverly’s children, Jody Snyder and Deborah (Frank) Caparulo III, Douglas (Lisa) Snyder, and Terry (Teresa) Snyder, along with six additional grandchildren and one great grandson who were an important part of his life.

He is also survived by his siblings Tracy Stafford and Christine Stafford, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. His beloved dog Mia was a constant companion and a source of comfort and happiness.

He was predeceased by his parents, beloved sisters, Mary Pipe, Ruth Horton, brother Ernie House and several half siblings.

Hugh will be remembered for his kindness, his steady presence, and the many quiet ways he helped those around him. His life was a reflection of hard work, generosity, and care for others, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Services will be held at a private family gathering.

Memorial donations may be made to your local SPCA or to Keuka Comfort Care Home, P.O. Box 107, Penn Yan, NY 14527.
