Herbert L. Hoover

Herbert L. Hoover, age 100, of Big Flats, NY passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2025. He was born July 25, 1924, in New York, NY, a son of Zenas and Lida (McConnel) Hoover.

He was a veteran who served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1946. He began working as a Physicist for Corning Incorporated in 1951 and was employed there for many years.

Herbert loved to work and after retirement he continued to consult for Corning, and, as a member of ASTM International (American Society for Testing and Materials), he served on committees establishing international standards for eyeglasses safety.

He enjoyed travel, hiking, and gardening.

Herbert is survived by his children, Julia Hoover of Big Flats, NY and John Hoover of Charlotte, NC, as well as nieces and nephews Holly Hoover, Jim Blaser, Debby Waxman, Clif Werline, and Be Jordan. He was predeceased by his wife Joanne M. Hoover.

A small family service will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in the cemetery at Old Immanuel Church, Muncy, PA.
