Helen Marie Mitchell Mattison, of Corning, NY, wife of the late Beryle Mattison, passed through the Gates of Heaven, at the tender age of 95, on Thursday, January 12, 2023, with her children at her side.
She was born October 2, 1927, in Jobs Corners, PA, to Dorotha and Frank Mitchell.
Helen was known for her smile and laughter. She loved to sing and yodel and loved Country music, especially Gene Autrey, Eddie Arnold, Jim Reeves and Alan Jackson. She loved the New York Yankees and her many pets over the years.
She was adored by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren who will always remember the Christmases, family reunions, and the wonderful meals and desserts, especially her banana cakes and no-bake cookies.
She worked in the cafeteria in several Corning-Painted Post School District schools and as the bookkeeper and cashier at the Foodmart on Market Street and later on Park Avenue.
Surviving Helen are her six children, Daryl of Athens, TX, Sheryl (Randy Pfister) of Crawfordville, FL, LLewellyn (Gloria) of Vestal, NY, Delinda Haven of Corning, NY, Lacinda (Patrick) Johnson of Gainesville, VA, and Jolinda of Corning, NY.
Along with her children and their spouses, she is survived by 13 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 8 great great grandchildren. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by Beryle, her husband of 45 years, her parents, Frank Mitchell and Dorotha Westfall, her sisters, Yvonne Sturdevant and Elizabeth Button, and brother, Ernest Mitchell.
At Helen’s request, there will be no funeral services. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, January 18, at Grace United Methodist Church, followed by an interment service at Hope Cemetery, South Corning, NY, Pastor Kevin Austin of Grace United Methodist Church, presiding. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Helen’s name to the Grace Church Endowment Fund, 191 Bridge St., Corning, NY.
The family would like to acknowledge the expert care given to Mom at Bethany Village Manor in Horseheads, NY.
