Harry R. Shafer Jr.

Harry R. Shafer Jr., age 74, of Corning, NY, passed away on Monday, September 1, 2025, at Corning Hospital.

He was born in Corning on March 17, 1951, the son of Harry R. and Mary J. (Blencowe) Shafer Sr. Harry worked as a contractor with Laborers' Local Union #785 in Elmira, NY.

A man with a love for the outdoors, Harry enjoyed hunting, following NASCAR—especially his favorite driver, Dale Earnhardt—and cheering for the New York Giants.

Harry is survived by his wife, Kathy Shafer of Corning; his children Patrick (Sarah) Shafer of Lancaster, NY, Rebecca (Sean) Murphy of Elmira, NY, and Melanie (Steven) Makitra of Bath, NY; his mother, Mary Shafer of Painted Post, NY; brothers Thomas (Carla) Shafer of Hammondsport, NY, and Robert Shafer (Kathy Kinane) of Camillus, NY; grandchildren Peyton, Sydney, Abigail, and Kellan; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In keeping with Harry’s wishes, there will be no services. Memorial donations may be made to your local SPCA in his honor.

The family will receive friends  in celebration of Harry's life at Junior's Log Cabin, 8818 NY-415, Campbell, NY on Saturday, October 11, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
