Frances R. Backer

Frances R. Backer, 94, passed away on October 17, 2023 after a long and fulfilling life in Corning, NY. Born to Anna and Omer Loop in Elmira on January 19, 1929. She married Elbert “Red” Backer in 1951 and moved to Corning where she worked at English Insurance for 27 years. Frances took pride in supporting her children in their various activities, especially, Cinderella Softball. She was active in the Presbyterian Church and taught Sunday School.

Frances was preceded in death by her husband, her sister, Margie McCarthy, her sister, Ann Martin, and her brother, Mortie Loop. She is survived by daughters Rosanne (Charlie) Darcangelo, Nancy (Jim) White, Debbie (Joe) Reed, and Pam Mayo. She is survived by 8 grandchildren: Cryssi, Joey, Michelle, Mikey, Katie, Matt, Mike, and Brian. She is also survived by 9 great grandchildren: Jessie, Kaileigh, Karrigan, Max, Adam, Emerson, Grady, Graeme, and Layne. She also held a special place in her heart for niece, Lori, and her children, Bri and Tyler.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and will be dearly missed. There will be no calling hours or funeral at this time; A memorial service will be planned for a future date with information to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Corning, Meals on Wheels, or a charity of one’s choice.
