Floyd “Spike” Winnie, age 74, passed away on October 18, 2022. He was born on July 23, 1948 in Corning, NY to Gerald and Dolly (Mastenbrook) Winnie. He grew up in Coopers Plains, NY. Spike married Teresa “Teri” Winnie on April 17, 1982.
Spike graduated from Corning-Painted Post West High School in 1967. He was a proud member of the IKZ Fraternity and lettered in football, basketball, and baseball. He was an avid Buffalo Bills and Nascar fan. His favorite drivers were Bobby Labonte and Chase Elliott. In later years, he played softball for Mac’s Grill and made many lifelong friends. Spike was a valued member of the Campbell American Legion S.A.L. He served as the S.A.L. Commander and Treasurer for several years and spent many hours volunteering for their events. He retired from Dresser Rand in 2008. Spike was a man devoted to his family, friends, and community and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Spike is survived by his wife, Teri Winnie; sons: William “Billy” (Kelly Wilson) Winnie, and David (Shannon) Winnie; daughters: Amanda Ford (Scott Hayes), and Lorinda Tyler (Joshua Black); grandchildren: Alysia, Cassidy, Nicolas, Spencer and Delilah; great-grandchildren: Forest and Roemi; sisters: Gerrie (Richard) Buck, Penny (Ben) Burger, Neal (Michael) Roberts, and Cindy Hibbard; sisters-in-law Bev Winnie, Susie (Rick) Thomas, Chris Lewis (Chris Wallace), and Kim Jessup (Bruice Sermonis); brothers-in-law Bruce White, Fran (Melissa) Holmes, Carl (Carol) Holmes, and several nieces and nephews. Spike was predeceased by his parents Gerald and Dolly Winnie, brother Thomas Winnie, sister Cathy White, brothers-in-law Alan Holmes and Harvey “Homer” Holmes, nephews Daniel Hibbard, Bruce White, Chad Lewis, and Dustin Lewis.
To honor Spike’s wishes, there will be no funeral services. The family will hold a celebration of life dinner on October 30th from 1:00pm-5:00pm at the Campbell American Legion.
