Eleanor Ann Sample

Eleanor A. "Pat" Sample, 93, of Elmira, NY formally of Big Flats passed away surrounded by her loved ones Thursday, March 16, 2023.

She was born August 22, 1929, in Riverside, NY the youngest daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Murphy) Durkin.  She graduated in 1947 from Painted Post  High School and was then employed by Corning Inc.  She married Richard H. Sample Jr. and spent 65 wonderful years together until his passing in 2015.  They raised three children Kevin Sample who passed in 2007, Timothy Sample who passed in 2021 and their daughter Susan with whom she lived with the last 4 years.  She was also predeceased by 8 of her brothers and sisters. 

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Susan and Joseph Strong of Elmira, 8 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 155 State Street, Corning, NY. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.
