It is with heavy hearts we announce that Edward M. Smith, (84), passed away at his home in East Campbell on December 31, 2024.
Born at his family home on Wixon Rd, East Campbell on April 16, 1940, to William and Marion Smith. Ed grew up there with his 5 siblings.
Ed married the love of his life, Susie May Clapper on November 21, 1964. Their son, William L. "Willy" Smith was born in 1965. They were very happily married for 54 years!
While Ed was a self-employed farmer; he also worked several various jobs in construction, building homes and other ventures over the years. Among them he worked for Keuka Construction, Hilton Champlain and Watkins International. Ed was always busy and consistently ready to lend a helping hand to any who needed it. Mostly, Ed spent his time outside; you could always find him working in the fields or in the barn doing chores; Ed loved the family farming life with Sue and Willy by his side.
Ed was an easy-going man with a kind and generous heart. He loved playing cards, drinking coffee, visiting friends and family. Many will remember Ed for his stylish sense of humor and his wonderful stories of his adventurous (sometimes mischievous) childhood. Ed loved farming and living close to nature in their earlier years Ed and Sue liked dancing, picnics and campfires. Sue had a unique family of farm pets that were loved and cherished by her, Ed and Willy. They included in the family throughout the years everything from cows to cats and dogs, chickens, turkeys, llamas, ostriches and most famously their beloved Pot Belly Pig "Snoopy". Ed was an extraordinary country gentleman and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Ed is survived by his sisters Nancy Best, Julia (Judy) Sprague and Vicky Serfass; his step-sisters Judy McChesney, Rita Jensen, Joanie Randall, Margie Gerhart and Paula Potter; close and caring nephews Les Smith, Dwayne Blencowe and several nieces and nephews; he was specially loved by lifelong friends the Fish family. He is predeceased by his loving wife Susie, son William "Willy"; his parents William and Marion, stepfather Paul Kittner; brothers Harry and Harold ""Hoppy"; sister Marilyn Merola and stepsister Mary Jones.
There will be no calling hours. Funeral and memorial services will be held at a later date to be determined by family.
