Obituary

Dawn Eloise Thomas, age 62, of Corning, New York left this earth on her heavenly journey to join loved ones on Saturday, June 3, 2023.

Dawn is the daughter of Linda L. (Smith) Casbeer and the late Max C. Black, born October 2, 1960, in Elmira, New York.  During her life she worked at a number of positions and cleaned homes as her business.

She loved to help others and would happily go without to give whatever she could to anyone that needed it, even complete strangers. She loved animals of all kinds throughout her entire life, from her favorite Donkey when she was a small child to her pet skunk that would curl up on your lap like a cat. And who could forget her sidekick “Gizmo”, the little albino ferret that would go everywhere with her riding around in her purse. She always had some sort or critter with her in life. She had a knack for growing plants of all kinds as well, she took great pride in her hundreds of houseplants that always filled her windows. Both animals and plants thrived under her care. She loved spending time with her friends and family. She was always giving someone she cared about a special gift, usually something small and unique, to let them know she was thinking of them. It wasn’t uncommon to receive something out of the blue from Dawn that would then hold a special place in your heart. It made her happy to make someone else happy. The Raven is her “spirit animal” which she always felt a close connection too. She could always be heard reminding everyone to “rise above” things that were unimportant and to focus on the positive things in life because that’s what really matters.

Left to cherish her memories are her Mother Linda Casbeer; Children April Zyla, Jeffrey Twist, Lorraine Tillotson and David Tillotson of Campbell; Brothers Max C. (Sharon) Black; of Big Flats, Elton (Laura) Black of Corning, and Jason Black of Addison; Sisters Linda Brown of Big Flats and Joan (Richard) Teall of Addison; Grandchildren Devin Twist, Andrew Twist, Nicholas Zyla, Kyle Partridge and Kaitlin Twist; several Great-Grandchildren; lifelong friend and companion Steven Thomas; several close friends, cousins nieces and nephews.

Services for Dawn will be held at the convenience of the family.
