Darla G. Neal

Darla G. (Bakeman) Neal, 73, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, July 17, 2024. She was surrounded by her family.

Darla was born on April 15, 1951, in Corning, New York. She was the daughter of Richard C. and Madolyn (Harris) Bakeman.

You would often see Darla at the Corning Post Office where she worked as a postal service clerk. After retirement she worked for Brownies’s Mini Mart in Lindley and the Corning Dandy Mini Mart.

Darla was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She was a talented seamstress, loved making crafts, mowing her lawn and was know for her delicious baked pies.  She was a faithful member of the Presho Church of Jesus Christ often baking pies for their events.  For over 20 years she worked with the National Weather Service collecting and logging the precipitation. Darla loved spending time on her back porch enjoying the sounds of the water from the Tioga River which flowed behind her home. In her spare time Darla and Pete would visit the Amish country often bringing home fresh produce in preparation for canning.

She is survived by her daughter Hollie (Eric) Lyon of Lindley; grandchildren Anthony (Kalie) Lyon of Corning, Dakota Lyon (Madison Jake) of Buffalo and Allison Lyon of Lindley; great grandchildren, Kellan and Mileena; several nieces and nephews, special niece Bridget (Chad) Makowiec; special cousin Rebecca (Fred) Whittier, special partner Pete Taft; her devoted pup, Maggie. She is predeceased by her parents and brother Duane Bakeman.

The family will receive friends at Acly-Stover Funeral Home, on Saturday, July 20, 2024, from 1-3 p.m.  Funeral services will follow at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Judi Savoy officiating. Burial will be in Presho Cemetery, Lindley, NY.
