Bennie Jo ‘BJ’ Eberlin, 77, of Addison, NY, was gently called home to the Lord on Monday, September 30, 2025, passing unexpectedly but peacefully at her home.
BJ was born on May 28, 1948, in Corning, NY, the daughter of Benjamin F. and Hazel (Davis) Brockway. She grew up with a love for family, faith, and hard work—values that would guide her throughout her life. After high school, she began a career with Corning Incorporated, where she proudly gave 38 years of service in Quality Control and as a machine operator. She often stayed in touch with former coworkers through Facebook, sharing memories and keeping the friendships she made along the way.
While BJ was dedicated to her work, her true joys were found at home and in the everyday things she loved. She adored gardening, filling her yard with flowers, and waiting each year for the hummingbirds to arrive. She had a “craft corner” in her room where she could lose herself for hours, making things with her hands. She was deeply rooted in her faith, reading her Bible daily and setting aside Sundays for worship with The Point Church in Knoxville, TN, where her daughter attends. Everyone knew not to disturb her during those times—her worship was her time with the Lord.
BJ was known for being meticulous in everything she did. She took careful notes, filled notebooks with reminders and ideas, and always made sure nothing slipped through the cracks. She could account for every penny she spent and took pride in knowing exactly where things stood. Those who knew her loved this about her—it was part of her unique charm.
Above all, BJ loved her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who never stopped encouraging, guiding, and caring for the people she loved. Her humor, and her steady faith will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
BJ is survived by her husband, Thomas Eberlin of Addison, NY; her daughters Teresa (Joe) Herrick of Corning, Yvonne (Robert) Shepard of Corning, Deanna (Manuel) Ruiz of Knoxville, TN, and Danielle (Lyle) Cloos of Elkland, PA; her grandchildren Joshua, Matthew, Thomas, Garrett, Gavin, Jillian, Arius, Brinn, and Joseph; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She was welcomed into Heaven by her parents, her son Lewis “Jim” Taft II, her granddaughter Nichole Herrick, and her siblings Kenneth Brockway, Irene Bovaird, and Ellamae Heck.
Family and friends are invited to gather at Acly-Stover Funeral Home on Monday, October 6, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with a funeral service to follow at 1:00 p.m. BJ will be laid to rest at her home, a place she loved and cared for.
In honor of her love of beauty and blooms, the family welcomes flowers for her service.
