Margie Mapes Obituary

 

Margie Sue Mapes of Corning, NY died suddenly on Thursday, April 4, 2024.  She was born in Canton, Ohio to Walter and Delphia Mark on September 19, 1955. 

She graduated from Canton South High School in Canton, Ohio and Massillon Baptist College in Massillon, Ohio.

After she graduated college she moved to Corning, NY to teach at King's Way Christian Academy where she taught 1st & 2nd grade, Jr & Sr High School maths.  She was a member at Central Baptist Church in Corning NY when she met her husband, Harry Mapes of 43 years.

After her retirement she held several jobs which eventually led her to teach 2 of her 5 grandchildren until she passed.

She was a member of Quackenbush Hill Baptist Church, Corning NY where she was able to fulfill her passion of teaching children.  She poured her heart and her soul into every ministry whether it was organizing VBS, teaching the Patch Kids on Wednesday Evenings, or co-teaching the teens with her husband.

She is survived by her husband, Harry Mapes.  Her children Timothy (Kim) Mapes, Mainesburg, PA; Michael (Lucero) Mapes, Tuscon, Az; Heather (Desmond) Smith, Lindley, NY; William Mapes, Syracuse, NY

She loved to spend quality time with her grandchildren: Theron, Conrad, Kendahl, Boston and Kayden.

Sister, Mary (Rich) Overton; Brothers, Walter (Wendy) Mark, Kenneth (Pat) Mark. Sister & Brother in laws, Doree (Jack) Andrews, Gary (Joyce) Mapes, Ameldia (Sam) Schrieber, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her parents Kenneth & Delphia Mark, Hugh & Betty Mapes, sister-in-law Carrie Oburn, and beloved friends Dick & Sonja Downing.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the Quackenbush Hill Baptist Church, 4371 College Ave., Corning, NY 14830 on Tuesday, April 9, 2024.  Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Dan Barner Officiating.  Burial will be in Rural Home Cemetery, Big Flats, NY.
